The imminence of a new iPhone, Apple’s smartphone, always unleashes a torrent of rumours. Rarely have they contradicted themselves just 48 hours after their presentation to the world.
When all analysts took for granted that the controversial ‘notch’ would give way to a specific arrangement of the camera and front sensors on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max (a kind of pill located next to a hole in the upper part of the screen), now transcends the information of a single recess in the panel.
The new ‘eyebrow’ of the iPhone will indeed have the shape of a pill (which the prestigious analyst Mark Gurman has confirmed), slightly distancing itself from the upper edge of the screen and with two light indicators located between the Face ID facial recognition module and the camera itself Of the device. These indicators would have more light than the rest of the panel so that we know when both the camera and the microphone of our brand new iPhone are active.
Why were all the sources talking about a segmented notch until a few days ago? Because none had seen the phone on, when the intermediate part between sensors and camera will remain off by software, hence the illusion of a continuous form.
iPhone 14 Max?
Greater consensus exists on the presentation of four iPhone models: standard (6.1 inches), Pro (6.1 inches), Pro Max (6.7 inches) and a third that would replace the reviled ‘mini’.
Until now it was referred to as the iPhone 14 Max, also 6.7-inch but lacking the advances in optics and processing inherent in high-end smartphones (remember that the Pro models would have 48-megapixel rear cameras, screens always powered with refresh rates up to 120 hertz and the new A16 chip instead of the improved A15 of its smaller siblings).
Well, the appearance of the photograph on the packaging of a case refers to an iPhone 14 Plus, a women’s cloture vocabulary abandoned with the iPhone 8 Plus back in 2017. Recovering this nickname, those from Cupertino would point out that the iPhone 14 Pro Max is, in effect, the maximum exponent of the family in terms of inches and benefits. The Plus model would thus be reserved for those looking for a larger screen diagonal but do not want to pay more for specifications that they will not end up taking advantage of.
New shades
The alleged colour range of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max
The latest front of rumours alludes to the shades and storage configurations of the new iPhone. The ‘Alpine Blue’ of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max would disappear in favour of two new colours: green and purple would be added to the traditional graphite, silver and gold according to a Korean blog with sources close to the bitten apple (the whispered ending in titanium would have been discarded at the last moment).
It is also said that the Pro models will start from 256GB instead of the current 128GB, which remains to be seen if it increases the starting prices according to inflation and the global component shortage.
Finally, some informants speak of an improved wireless charging system (MagSafe) through more powerful magnets, leading to a new and exclusive attachable battery.
The next Apple keynote will take place on September 7 at 7:00 p.m., when the announcements of three Apple Watch models (SE, Series 8 and Pro) and the second generation of AirPods Pro wireless headphones are also expected.
