We already know that artificial intelligence is the software pillar that supports the new Galaxy S24, S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Samsung launched its Galaxy AI platform with numerous and important AI-based functions that extend to practically all sections of the devices, and the best thing is that Galaxy AI will also reach older Galaxy cell phones.
Samsung confirmed the official list of Galaxy cell phones that will receive Galaxy AI:
- Galaxy S23 Ultra
- Galaxy S23+
- Galaxy S23
- Galaxy S23 FE
- Galaxy Z Fold5
- Galaxy Z Flip5
- Galaxy Tab S9
- Galaxy Tab S9+
- Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra
The first thing that stands out on the list is that there are no smartphones before 2023, and the big absentee is the Galaxy S22 family . Samsung backtracked and although it first said that the Galaxy S22 would receive AI functions, it later explained that the reason that the Galaxy S22 does not receive Galaxy AI is not due to technical issues, since they share an Exynos 2200 processor with the Galaxy S23. FE, but rather that the company wants to focus on bringing the Galaxy AI experience to its “next-generation” devices to “ensure the quality and good performance” of its new AI features.
These nine devices will receive Galaxy AI in the first half of 2024, Samsung promises, along with the update to One UI 6.1 based on Android 14, the same software version that runs out of the box on the new Galaxy S24.
What is Galaxy AI and what AI features does it have?
We already talked in detail about the new features of Galaxy AI previously. They are divided into two main sections: those focused on photography with the new “Generative Editing”, and the more general functions that are integrated into Samsung’s native apps.
On the other hand, Galaxy AI has other functions powered by Google Gemini that “live” in Samsung’s native apps:
- Live Translate, real-time text and voice translation during calls.
- Chats Assist on the Samsung keyboard and works in any app. It allows real-time translation and “tone adjustment” to create texts for different environments, for example, with the same base, create business and cordial texts colloquial texts, or texts focused on social networks.
- Transcription Assist and Note Assist in the Voice Recorder app. Automatically transcribes audio, generates summaries, formats texts and suggests headlines according to the content.
- Circle to Google search. This new Google feature is natively integrated into the Galaxy S24 and allows you to search for information about an object in any photo or image by simply circling it.
